On Saturday, stay late to enjoy the art and search the night sky for giant planets with the South Florida Amateur Astronomers’ Association at the Fox Observatory. More info below.

Saturday September 14th the South Florida Amateur Astronomers Association (SFAAA) will open Fox Astronomical Observatory in Broward County’s Markham Park to the public from Sunset until Midnight. Sunset will be at 7:25PM. Observing the night sky is weather permitting as we can’t observe through rain or clouds. The full Moon will rise at 8:05PM and be visible from Observatory telescopes by about 10PM. The Giants are expected to be additionally illuminated by the full Moon most of the night.

Arrive at the Observatory before Sunset and the park charges a $1.50 per person admission fee. After Sunset there is no admission fee. The Observatory has no entrance fee. The SFAAA is a non-profit operating from donations and annual $20 memberships. Some SFAAA members arrive an hour or so before Sunset to open up the Observatory or to set up their personal telescopes for public observing on the West side of the Observatory building.

"Searching for Giants" is the first ever countywide display of giant inflatable art; taking place at 9 locations across Broward County during the months of September and October.

This pop-up exhibition is an exciting the lead-up to the County's signature event - the Riptide Music Festival, which is expanded this year to feature music, food, fashion, and art. Attendees are encouraged to find the giants and post images of the sculptures on Instagram tagged @BrowardArts with #ArtAcrossBroward to be entered into a contest to win Riptide Music Festival "Meet-the-Band" passes.

Please note, park admission on Fridays is free; and $1.50 on Saturdays.

This is a partnership of Broward Cultural Division, Broward County Board of County Commissioners, Greater Fort Lauderdale Convention & Visitors Bureau, and Entercom Radio.
