Renee Herman, our Latest League of Legendary Women Honoree!

Hi, it’s Julie and Tamara G! LITE FM and Memorial Healthcare System are proud to honor another Legendary Woman! RENEE HERMAN – the founder of Harvest Drive!

In 1992, Renee organized a food drive at Country Isles Elementary School, so 20 families could enjoy a full Thanksgiving meal. And from there it grew!

Harvest Drive now assists 2400 families every November, at 14 different Broward County Schools. Kids and community partners work together - and in the process children learn that kindness matters and together, we make our community stronger. Find out more at HarvestDriveFlorida.com.

Renee Herman, we are so proud to have YOU – as the newest member of our LITE FM League of Legendary Women! Renee was nominated by her friend Holly, here's the amazing story that Holly submitted to us:

"Renee is a wonderful friend, mother and grandmother who has gone above and beyond for the past 26 years helping children and families with food, clothing, school supplies and basic necessities.  In 1992, she organized a food drive at Country Isles Elementary School. With the support of her family, the school, and the local community, Renee collected enough food for 20 families to enjoy a full Thanksgiving meal. This was just the beginning of Harvest Drive Inc., a volunteer driven 501(c)3 now in its 27th year.

Each November, the Harvest Drive now assists 2400 families with children in the Broward County Schools with 6 - 10 bags worth of groceries as well as a gift card or perishables to complete their thanksgiving meal. Distribution occurs at 14 different Broward County Schools.  Also, throughout the school year, the Harvest Drive team and community partners pack 1200 non-perishable 40 lb food boxes for families in crisis.

Renee believes that by teaching children at a young age that they can and must give back to their community they will learn that kindness does matter, our actions do matter and together we can make our community stronger. Her hope is to build young leaders for the future so that the next generation will stamp out hunger."
