Furry Fursday: Meet Alfie

A corgi butt with a rottweiler face

April 6, 2017

Alfie is a three-year-old Rottweiler/Corgi mix who just loves to have a good time! This sweet boy will wiggle wiggle wiggle when he sees you so that you can go over and pet him. When you do, he will shower you with lots of precious kisses. Alfie is the perfect mix of playful and sweet; of energetic and calm. If he was a part of Goldie Locks and the Three Bears, this medium sized doggie would be baby bear: a perfect balance of everything you need!

April is Heartworm Prevention Month!

What is Heartworm?

A heartworm is a parasitic worm that is transmitted by mosquitoes and lives in the heart and pulmonary arteries of an infected animal. By traveling through the bloodstream, these foot-long worms harm arteries and vital organs, thus, posing a serious to fatal threat.

General Symptoms of Heartworm include: labored breathing, coughing, vomiting, weight loss, lack of energy or fatigue after only moderate exercise. However, some dogs may exhibit no symptoms at all until late stage of infection.

The Good News: Heartworm is easily preventable with an inexpensive, chewable pill. The Humane Society of Greater Miami offers heartworm prevention, and other preventive services, at their clinics located in North Miami Beach and Cutler Bay; no appointment necessary. You can learn more about these services that will help your pet live a longer, healthier life at www.humanesocietymiami.org or by calling 305-696-0800.
