August 28, 2019

Ed Sheeran did it all on the Divide Tour. Over two years and 260 shows, the singer set the mark for the highest-grossing tour of all time, thrilling fans all around the world, and writing his name in history.

Now, as the run wraps up in Ipswich, England, the “Shape Of You” singer is ready for a break.

“There is something very bittersweet about it. I love that you guys are here and we are ending it in Ipswich,” Sheeran said during the final show of the tour on Monday night, according to The Sun. “This is my last gig for probably 18 months.”

“It’s been an emotional day for a lot of people backstage. It kind of feels like, in a weird way, that you’re breaking up with a girlfriend that you’ve been with for years,” he continued. “It sounds odd but it has been a long tour.”

The Divide Tour began in Italy in March of 2017, traveling the globe and including an amazing string of stadium shows in the US, finally ending near his home in the UK. The run tops U2 and their U2 360 Tour which ended in 2011, playing more than double the amount of shows as the iconic band.

“I want to say thank you to everyone on this tour. Thank you to everyone who has given me a chance. This is my last song,” Sheeran said as the show came to a close. “See you in a few years time. Thank you.”

Beyond the grueling days of over two years on the road, Ed Sheeran also has a new wife to spend time with, having confirmed his marriage to longtime girlfriend Cherry Seaborn earlier this year.
